George studied painting and printmaking at the University of Hartford during the 1950s when Abstract Expressionism was at its height. After performing as a jazz musician since high school his aesthetic sensibility was shaped by the vital energy of the times.

Yet he was disciplined in his studies. He drew beautifully and his realistic images are executed with a nod to the modern masters. Composition is as important as depiction.
